Tumi Hlongwane is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) with extensive experience in the financial services and capital markets. She completed her B.Com degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2004, completed a Higher Diploma in Accounting in 2005, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant, SA in 2009. Her articles were completed at Deloitte Johannesburg within the Financial Institutions Services Team. After completing her studies Tumi joined Nedbank Capital as the Executive Assistant to the Managing Executive: Nedbank Capital where she focused on providing technical support to the Managing Executive while executing ad hoc projects.
She later joined the Nedbank Capital Corporate Finance team. Her projects included assignments in various sectors, such as telecommunications and energy sectors. In this role her services included financial modeling, due diligence, deal structuring and asset valuation. During this period she was actively involved in the merger of Kagiso Trust Investments and Tiso Holdings, now renamed Kagiso Tiso Holdings. Tumi later joined Absa Capital’s Investment Banking Advisory team as a Manager. Her projects included client coverage of Natural Resources clients, valuations, financial modeling and equity financing transactions. She is currently a founding partner of Mohau Capital which is a corporate finance and advisory business.
A qualified medical doctor, Dr Penny Tlhabi has extensive experience at executive level within the private and public healthcare sectors. After qualifying in 1987 (Medunsa), she worked in both the public and private sectors as a clinician until 1996. From 1998 until 2002 she held the role of non-executive director on the Board of Healthcare Funders and served as the organisation’s deputy chairman from 2002 until 2005 as well as its chief executive officer in 2002 and 2005. Penny was also employed as the CEO of Transmed Administrators from 1996 to 2000 and served on the Board of the Private Healthcare Forum (PHF) from 2002 to 2005.
She was a member of the organisation’s executive committee in 2004/5. Penny is currently employed as Head of Discovery: People and Sustainability, responsible for developing and implementing Discovery’s human capital strategy. She serves on the Central Executive Committee and the Board of Discovery Health. Previously, she worked as General Manager for New Markets responsible for the development and execution of the new Market growth strategy for Discovery Health. She also serves on the Gauteng Aids Council.
Yvonne Motsisi has extensive experience in the healthcare industry having served at executive level within the Fund Management and Group Branding and Communications functions at Medscheme and Life Healthcare. She attained a BA (Social Science) from National University of Lesotho (1987) and a BA Honours from University of Zimbabwe (1988). She joined Medscheme immediately after returning to South Africa in 1994 having achieved a Masters Degree in Industrial Relations at University of Sydney and an MBA through the University of Canberra, Australia.
As Medscheme’s Corporate Service Executive, she was responsible for managing a portfolio of medical schemes before being promoted to the Executive Committee as Divisional Director of the Consulting Division. Yvonne was later appointed Executive Director: Branding, Communication and Transformation responsible for the formulation and implementation of the branding, communications and Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment strategies across the AfroCentric Group.
Active in a number of organisations involved in the transformation of the healthcare industry, Yvonne served as Chairperson of Aid for Aids (a leader in HIV/Aids disease management), a Trustee for the Financial Services Board’s National Education Foundation, and is past director of the Board of Healthcare Funders. She currently chairs Sasol Inzalo Employee Scheme Trust, and serves as a Director of FEDHA (a women’s empowerment Group with interests in healthcare). Yvonne recently joined Life Healthcare where, as Group Marketing and Communications Executive, she is responsible for driving the Group’s marketing, branding and communications strategies.
Nomkhita Nqweni has a wealth of experience at executive level in organisations that are active in the investment banking and financial services sectors both locally and internationally. She amassed a wealth of experience over some 14 years across various positions within Alexander Forbes before joining Barclays Africa in June 2010. As a member of the organisation’s Executive Committee, she coordinates the delivery of investment advisory, wealth fiduciary advisory, banking and credit solutions to ultra-high net worth wealth management clients of Absa and Barclays on the African continent.
In addition she coordinates the provision of all non-banking investment and wealth products to internal and external distribution channels representing retail and institutional investors and is responsible for ZAR 232bn of assets under management. Driven by her passion for developing talent and skills development Nomkhita served as an Executive Member, Deputy President and President of the Association for Black Securities and Investment Professionals from 2004 to 2009. She also chairs the Barclays Africa Diversity and Inclusion Council, a forum which drives the Group’s global diversity and inclusion strategy for Africa.
In 2006, she launched the Women In Focus mentorship programme aimed at supporting the growth of women leadership in the financial services sector. Until recently she also served as a board member of the SA Mint, and SA Bank Note Company, both subsidiaries of the South African Reserve Bank. Born and raised in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, she contributes to the development of the community she came from, serving as a board member of the Ubuntu Education Fund, a Clinton Global Initiative which is a globally recognised nonprofit organisation addressing the cradle to career needs of children and households affected by HIV and AIDS in and around Zwide township. She holds a BSc degree from Rhodes University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Investment Management from RAU (UJ) and has completed a Leadership Development Programme at GIBS.
